Mangosteen and Migraines

If you suffer from bad migraines you are far form alone.  15% of the population are migraine sufferers – also known as chronic vascular headache – which means you are in good company.

Not that this statistic will give you much comfort when you are suffering from the pain that having a migraine brings with it.  Head pain, such as a migraine, is one of the most debilitating pains around.  It makes it all but impossible to think, or even operate properly.  It interferes with our jobs, our personal lives, pretty much everything.

Migraines

Often they aren't quick to leave us either.  Whilst some migraines can go in 4 hours (which in itself is often enough to ruin a day) some can take up to 72 hours or even longer.  Such extended lengths of migraines can ruin many people's quality of life.

Current thinking is that the blood vessels on the way to the brain are caused to suddenly expand, brushing against the nerve tissues that surround the vessels.  This irritation may sound small but can lead to massive amounts of head pain.

Medical Help

Whilst some painkillers can sometimes help they are nothing more than a stop gap and in most cases will do nothing more than 'take the edge off'.  We still end up having to sit with out eyes shut in a darkened room.

There are other methods of helping – but most deal with combating the pain rather than the migraine itself – and whilst pain relief is certainly welcome to stronger the pain killer (and they need to be strong to deal with the strength of pain!) the more side effects. So pain killers even when they help can spoil your day in other ways.

Because of what we understand of the nature of migraines many doctors are starting to see the power of using anti-inflammatory drugs to help combat migraines, looking to reduce the expansion of the blood cells and to help stop the tissue with the nerves to swell.  Certain experiments on this basis have proven to be successful so far.

Mangosteen and Migraines

But as with pain killers man made medicines have a price, side effects that you may not want.  Which is why natural remedies are so powerful in helping us beat the problem of migraines.  Natural remedies such as Mangosteen.

Mangosteen is one of the richest fruits known to man when it comes to stores of xanthones, and it is these xanthones which hold the key to how mangosteen is able to help beat migraines.

Xanthones have been described as a 'super anti-inflammatory pain killer'.  What this means is that mangosteen is able to help beat migraines in two ways.  Firstly It reduces swelling, moving the nerve endings further away and stopping the blood vessels expanding – cutting of the cause of the migraine.  It also acts as a pain killer – meaning that it also fights the symptom of the migraine.

Migraines are painful things that can be very debilitating, but Mangosteen products are starting to allow us to fight back, giving us natural ways of tackling problem migraines.
